Marisa Wunderlin embodies in-depth professional expertise, modern leadership and a holistic approach to performance, development and mental health in football.

Marisa Wunderlin, born on 16 August 1987, grew up in St. Gallen and played in the Swiss National League A for seven years, including for FC Staad. She ended her playing career at the age of 23 and set her sights firmly on a career in coaching. Her career took her from youth development at BSC Young Boys, through international experience as U18 coach at Olympique Lyonnais Féminin, to key roles in top-flight Swiss football. She was assistant coach at FC Zurich Women, head coach of YB Women and, from 2021 to 2025, head coach of FC St. Gallen Women. At the same time, she worked as a research assistant in the field of sports physiology and performance diagnostics at the Federal Office of Sport and was an athletic trainer at SC Kriens. From 2019 until the end of 2022, she was assistant coach of the Swiss women’s national team. Since the beginning of 2026, she has taken on the role of sporting director of the women’s department at FC Thun.

Marisa Wunderlin belongs to a very exclusive circle in Swiss football. She is only the third woman in Switzerland to obtain the UEFA Pro Licence, the highest level of qualification for professional coaches. This two-year course is a prerequisite for coaching professional clubs and requires many years of experience, a valid UEFA A Licence and a rigorous selection process. Her work is characterised by analytical thinking, clear communication and a deep understanding of performance development in elite sport.

Off the pitch, Marisa Wunderlin is deeply committed to the training of female coaches, leadership and the development of a sustainable culture. She is available as a speaker and delivers keynote talks on the following topics:

  • Leadership: An insight into her leadership philosophy as a football coach and as a person
  • Winning Mindset: Mental strength, motivation and health in a world full of change and uncertainty
  • Creating culture: How to foster a sustainable and performance-enhancing culture in teams, clubs and businesses
  • Female Talent: How can we attract female talent and female leaders? Sport as an inspiration for other sectors. What sport can teach us about nurturing female talent and female leaders

 

Through her blend of practical experience, academic research and personal insight, Marisa Wunderlin bridges the gap between professional sport, business and society, highlighting how sustained performance and mental health are interlinked.
