Education
Viola (Vio) Calligaris, from Obwalden, was born on 17 March 1996 in Sarnen and began her professional career at SC Kriens. She then played for BSC YB before venturing abroad to join Atlético Madrid, where she played for two seasons at the highest international level. This was followed by further spells in Spain with Valencia CF and Levante UD, where she established herself as a regular starter over several years in one of Europe’s most tactically demanding leagues. In 2023, she moved to Paris Saint-Germain and subsequently continued her international career at Juventus Turin.
Viola Calligaris has been a key player in the Swiss national team for many years. Having previously played in various positions, she now features consistently as a centre-back. In this role, she stands out thanks to her strength in one-on-one situations, her positioning and her awareness of the game.
With her international experience, professionalism and clear communication, she is a vital pillar of the national team both on and off the pitch.
